How do I make a complaint?
Contact the organization in writing when possible. Identify the program or event, relevant dates, people or communications involved, what occurred, and the requested resolution. Do not include unnecessary sensitive information. Immediate safety concerns should be escalated without waiting for the ordinary complaint process.
Will I face retaliation for raising a concern?
Retaliation for a good-faith complaint, safety report, accommodation request, discrimination report, suspected fraud report, safeguarding disclosure, or participation in an inquiry is prohibited. Knowingly false or malicious statements may be addressed, but an unsubstantiated good-faith concern is not misconduct.
How are complaints investigated?
The organization will assess urgency, conflicts of interest, safety, evidence preservation, confidentiality, and the appropriate reviewer. The person whose conduct is questioned may be given an opportunity to respond. Information is shared only as reasonably necessary, and absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
How do I report suspected fraud, theft, diversion, or financial misconduct?
Use the reporting channels in the Whistleblower Policy, such as an uninvolved supervisor, Executive Director, Board Chair, Treasurer, or designated committee. Preserve relevant records and do not conduct unauthorized surveillance or destroy evidence.
How can I request public nonprofit information?
Certain filings, such as the organization’s exemption application and recent annual information returns, may be available for public inspection as required by federal law. Send a specific request using the organization’s contact information. Confidential donor information is not included in public copies where protected.
Who approves organizational policies?
Website statements may be approved through delegated operational authority. Governance, financial, safeguarding, volunteer, records, conflict, whistleblower, gift, and similar organizational policies should be adopted or authorized by the Board or an appropriately delegated body and reviewed periodically.
How often are these FAQs updated?
The organization should review the FAQs at least annually and whenever a program, service area, vendor, law, contact method, donation system, SMS program, or safeguarding practice materially changes. The revision date should appear on the published page.
What if an answer here conflicts with a program form or signed agreement?
The current program-specific notice, signed agreement, donor restriction, grant condition, event waiver, or legally required disclosure controls for that matter. Contact the organization for clarification before relying on inconsistent information.
